Who We AreWear It Well Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to providing dignity, hope, self confidence and support to families through educational and community outreach programs.
Our MissionThe mission of Wear It Well is to educate, inspire and motivate individuals facing cancer or life-altering events and to enhance the quality of life by renewing the mind, body and soul.
What We DoWe promote healthier communities by offering makeovers, awareness events and educational programs. Our focus is to provide cost-effective, quality treatment and assist individuals whose challenging battle with life has made it difficult or impossible for them to thrive and live a happy, healthy life. We serve men, women and children regardless of race, color or creed.
Our Programs Extreme Makeover is a community-based program that provides individualized makeovers for people with cancer - to help them cope with the aftermath of cancer treatments, and how it affects their appearance and self-esteem. It is also for those dealing life-altering events/illnesses. The program includes, but is not limited to: Hair (wigs & extensions), makeup/cosmetics, manicures/pedicures (nail care) and new clothing along with spiritual and mental motivation. We also provide training sessions and workshops as needed to ensure the recipients feel confident beyond the makeovers.
Love The Skin You're In raises awareness for anti-bullying, suicide prevention, diversity inclusion, self-confidence and teaches life skills. Wear It Well educates the community, schools and organizations on what it means to Love The Skin You're In, no matter what you are facing in life. The program enables at-risk youth and individuals facing life's challenges to effectively deal with battling suicidal thoughts, depression, low self-esteem, anxiety and feeling worthless due to bullying or other traumatic experiences. This is done through utilization of awareness events held at schools, in the community and in private settings. Through professional interactive presentations, those attending these events receive statistics and examples of others battling the same issues. Following each event, attendees identified as bullies - or being bullied - are offered opportunities to connect with appropriate professionals for additional individualized interventions. The goal is to increase their confidence and self-esteem - leaving a lasting impression - which will help enrich and empower them. A community rally, “Bullying is Banned”, is held annually to compel the youth, families, schools and other organizations take a stand against bullying. The Health is Wealth program is designed to shed light on the importance of wellness, nutrition, exercise and, ultimately, living a healthy lifestyle. Fitness specialists and personal trainers provide group and one-on-one sessions that include workouts without the gym; nutrition fun tips on diets, including sweets; how to meal prep/diet on a budget; facts about diet myths and how to use supplements. Your health is your greatest wealth. This program is also designed to raise awareness of causes such as autism, heart disease, lupus, Alzheimer's, various types of cancer, diabetes, etc., with designated events for the cause. We also hosts health fairs throughout the year - providing complimentary health consultations. Ready, Set, GOALS is a program that equips and educates individuals through a comprehensive employment and training program. We prepare for workforce readiness by providing resume tips and creation, preparation for job interviews, personal branding, dress for success (complete makeover) and master financial literacy/budgeting after finding work. Participants learn to establish goals and work towards achieving them. Transportation is also provided after jobs are secured, if needed. The Bridge is an enrichment program that serves children and youth ages 10 to 18, and encompasses a broad range of focus areas including academic support, mentoring, youth development, arts, and sports and recreation. We work to address needs such as food security, education, literacy, youth leadership development and life skills. Our HistoryWear It Well was established in memory of and to honor the life and legacy of Leona Givhan Davis June 13, 2017. Our aim is to model the countless attributes she exemplified such as caring for others, never judging anyone and doing it from the goodness of her heart whether paid or for free. We offer services that will encourage our clients to "wear it well," regardless of what they face in life and to provide a renewed sense of self-worth.
We were mobile since inception, making it difficult to hold meetings, conduct classes, or transform cancer patients with makeover sessions, until now. The former home of Charles and Ruth Morris at 826 West Jefferson Street has become a partner with Wear It Well allowing them to use the home as their permanent location that opened January 2020. Mr. and Mrs. Morris lived in Tupelo for more than 30 years and were very active in First United Methodist Church and the community. Mr. Morris was retired military and ran Tupelo Scrap Corporation until he retired, and Mrs. Morris was the Director of Special Services for Tupelo Public School District, from which she retired. She, too, was a cancer survivor. Larry and Pamela Morris wanted to find an organization with which they could work. They researched Wear It Well and decided it is a worthy charity with which her parents would have liked. Larry and Pamela wanted to do something lasting in memory of her parents, and Pamela is certain her parents would be very pleased that their home will become a refuge for those who need the many services freely provided by Wear It Well. |
