a private life is a happy life

Earlier in my WIW posts this year, I touched on social media and the power it has to deter your character if you allow it.  I just want to reiterate on a few things about watching what you put out there for the world to see.  Let me remind you that even though you delete it, it has been viewed by many and probably screen shot.

Now, I barely post anything, and if I do, it’s probably once every two weeks.  I’m not saying you have to be that way, and not be yourself because I’m boring but, everyone doesn’t need to know all your personal business; especially all of the downs and negative parts in your life.  There are people that don’t have your best interest at heart and those people wait to find something to hold and say against you.  Don’t give the wrong people any part of your private life, you’ll never escape from it.

Quick example, if you and your significant other break up, no one needs to know.  Not even family because, usually it’s something that can be resolved easily.  If you keep putting bad things about your relationship on social media, and ya’ll finally become serious about it later on, your family and friends aren’t going to respect that relationship and will have a lack of faith in it due to the major inconsistencies ya’ll had before.

Also, when you post things on social media, it’s pretty similar to texting.  Most of the time, its straight to the point but the way you interpret it, can be wrong.  The interpretation of a post can be worse than what you wanted it to be and it’s hard to clear it up afterwards.  Putting so much of your personal business easily helps you lose the respect of others and it could put distance between you and the ones who care.

Lastly, if you think employers don’t search your accounts before considering hiring you, you are wrong.  That is one of the FIRST things they do to see who you really are.  You would be representing them, not just yourself and they want to see what they’re getting themselves into before making it official.  It could make or break you.
