happy halloween!

Happy Halloween! We are approaching the holiday season very quickly. With Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's on the way, we tend to pick up some extra weight. Everyone is happy, throwing parties, staying inside, and eating more and it seems impossible to keep that weight from adding on.

  • Take time to drink LOTS of water. With all of the sugar and heavy foods you will indulge in these next two months, that water will keep the weight off of you. The more you drink, the less bloated you are. If you’re not taking in enough water, your body will contain it.

  • Do not sit down after you eat. Watch the times you eat, meaning, don’t eat dinner late, you’re not walking around the house or doing any activity late at night after you eat. Give yourself 30 minutes at least to stay active after a meal.

  • I know it may be hard but eat in moderation this holiday season. It’s okay to indulge in everything but don’t make it a habit throughout the day. Leave that one time in your day to indulge but have one healthy or light meal as well just to keep some balance.

It’s easy to get lethargic and comfortable this season. Hopefully these tips will keep up your momentum.

Did you know that African American women have a 70% chance of dying or having serious complications during pregnancy due to misdiagnosis and poor treatment?  Only African American women! At this percentage, we need to be aware of our health and taking precautions for what goes on with our bodies.

If you go to the doctor, that means something is bothering you.  Do not leave that office until you get a definite answer as to why you’re feeling the way you do.  Women get blown off so easily as if we are being dramatic or not really sure what is going on and the doctor will send you home without getting you the proper help.

A lot of women have been dismissed by doctors telling them that they’re fine, and then later on, they are permanently effected by what could have been avoided.

It’s okay to hurt, and not feel well because you have the right to receive help.  Yes, black women have had more complications than any other race in this country when it comes to health but for any woman or man, we need to get answers and stand our ground when doctors, nurses, etc. try to push us out the door.  Ask for another doctor if the one you’re dealing with isn’t understanding. It’s good to have a second opinion and to also have someone who can relate.

Also, these aren’t all doctors but some, like all professionals are not always the best.  Ask the right questions and demand the help and explanations.

credit!

Credit, credit, credit.  You can’t escape it, nor live right without it.  I’m not an expert on maintaining good credit but just make sure that whatever you sign up for whether loans, credit card, etc., you know that you have the means to make payments back.  Yes, times get rough and you may have to do things that you’re not fond of but credit is a monster if not controlled.  Make sure you always make your payments on time.  If you can’t, you usually know ahead of time and it will be beneficial to let the lender know that you may be late or see if you can get it pushed back without a penalty.

With credit cards, try to spend what you can afford.  Don’t buy anything that you don’t need if you can’t pay it back the next month.  All creditors want to see is that you can promise to pay on time which will help your credit score a lot!  Everyone has debt and most have over $50k in student loans.  With having such a high amount of debt, missing payments will be detrimental to your score.  You just have to make sure you’re maintaining your business well even with all that you have against it.  This little bit goes a long way!
You may have heard of CreditKarma.com.  This website is a great tool to monitor what’s going on with your scores.  It gives you tips on how to boost your score and if anything is reported so you can be able to monitor and report any false inquiries.

be happy with what you have...

Are you satisfied with your portion? With what God has given you at the time to handle on your own? We have all had doors not open for us; not because we weren’t good enough but because we weren’t ready for what was on the other side. Are you satisfied with your portion that you are learning, doing your best with what you have before asking for something bigger or better?

Then again, you think it’s better because you’re unhappy with your situation and think that will suffice when in reality, you make the decisions to be happy and make the best of what you have. If making the best of your portion is difficult then handling a bigger portion would not be maintainable. God wants the best for us and knows what we need. We also have to show him that we are appreciative of our portion before He trusts us with more on our plates.
