Did you know that African American women have a 70% chance of dying or having serious complications during pregnancy due to misdiagnosis and poor treatment?  Only African American women! At this percentage, we need to be aware of our health and taking precautions for what goes on with our bodies.

If you go to the doctor, that means something is bothering you.  Do not leave that office until you get a definite answer as to why you’re feeling the way you do.  Women get blown off so easily as if we are being dramatic or not really sure what is going on and the doctor will send you home without getting you the proper help.

A lot of women have been dismissed by doctors telling them that they’re fine, and then later on, they are permanently effected by what could have been avoided.

It’s okay to hurt, and not feel well because you have the right to receive help.  Yes, black women have had more complications than any other race in this country when it comes to health but for any woman or man, we need to get answers and stand our ground when doctors, nurses, etc. try to push us out the door.  Ask for another doctor if the one you’re dealing with isn’t understanding. It’s good to have a second opinion and to also have someone who can relate.

Also, these aren’t all doctors but some, like all professionals are not always the best.  Ask the right questions and demand the help and explanations.
