MLK DAY

On MLK day, many people participate in volunteering opportunities to honor the works that Dr. King advocated and fought for throughout his life.  We must not forget that that it was Dr. King that was disruptive, he was a law breaker, he challenged authority, and he shattered the status quo, all in the name of equality, and fighting for what’s right.  What we praise him for now, was hated by many then.  And we all “celebrate” him today for the bravery he had but will be quick to question and follow behind people like Colin Kaepernick fully because it could be a touchy or very uncomfortable situation since everyone loves football.
Great works and progression doesn’t happen if we are hesitant to stand up for what we believe in because it’s uncomfortable. Uncomfortable is good and to see change, we must be the change we want to see.  It’s okay to follow passionate and brave leaders.  Leaders need back up to get them to the next level to improve our communities.  Back then, Dr. King had struggles but there is a holiday just for him. Today, we have many leaders taking a stand that we should be on the lookout for.  If it feels right, follow the movement. Be vocal about it and help make that change.
We can’t keep letting people down who sacrificed their peace for the peace for others.  Let’s not complain about what we don’t like and make sure you’re doing everything you can to prevent it.  Be your own Dr. King this year and be the crowd that marches with other Dr. Kings in your life.
